Acara Solutions has been providing aerospace firms nationally with our staffing services for over 60 years. Our national/international aerospace client, that has been around for many decades, has a plant in Auburn, CA (Sacramento region). They have a newly created opening for a Manufacturing Engineering Manager. This is a direct salaried employee position with a base salary range target of $120K - $135K plus bonus. This is a M-F onsite position starting at 7:00 AM.

This is an aerospace metal machine shop environment. Very hands-on. You will need to have a background on the floor running the machines. Employee supervisory experience preferred, but not required. There are 5 direct reports (3 manufacturing engineers and 2 CNC programmers). You will be doing process planning, part operation layout, creating standard work, leading team, and handling outside processing.

As the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, you will manage engineering operations for our Auburn, CA site. You will plan, direct and coordinate production, machinery, and packaging; and you will drive operational excellence into our processes. The Manufacturing Engineer Manager provides ongoing support for Value Stream leadership in the areas of productivity improvement and lead time reduction, takes a leadership role with Operations regarding New Product Development activities and is responsible for ensuring that all customer and internal cost requirements are met or exceeded. In this role you will report to our Site Leader.

  • Manage all aspects of manufacturing process development, assembly and test process, tool design and fabrication and Statistical Process Control; Ensure timely and accurate completion of project tasks through diligent coordination of all resources, and non-manufacturing processes to achieve process control to acceptable levels as dictated by company policy and customer requirements.
  • Drive process improvement, set-up reduction and the development of visual standard work to support cost reduction, productivity and lead time reduction goals; Champion change.
  • Lead and support Value Stream Mapping and Kaizen activities to support company initiatives and goals.
  • Evaluate and approve all Engineering requests for development work to ensure feasibility, determine make/buy status, and prioritize workload.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure the lowest cost to manufacture new or revised products inclusive of labor, materials, burdens, tooling equipment and facilities.
  • Prepare departmental budgets; Monitor and control the expenses of the Manufacturing Engineering function within departmental budget constraints.
  • Manage the investigation, selection, justification and appropriation of capital equipment for operations.
  • Support new product introduction for all internally manufactured components on all new products and programs to include full participation in IPT activities.
  • Responsible for the guidance and direction of all assigned personnel ensuring that company policy and work rules are adhered to.
Job Requirements
Required Skills / Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Industrial, Mechanical, E/M Engineering or similar
Min 5 years of manufacturing engineering experience with hands-on CNC machine experience.
(although employee supervisory experience is preferred, a candidate with strong CNC machine shop experience without employee management will be considered)
* This experience should include strong knowledge of LEAN/CI, raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs and other manufacturing related techniques.
* Strong emphasis on critical thinking, time management, judgment and decision-making; Excellent oral and written communication; Ability to motivate, develop and direct people as they work; Ability to identify the best people for the job.
Min 1 year of experience w/ tooling design (they use Autocad)
Min 3 years of metal machine shop experience (ideally aerospace and ideally exp with steel and aluminum castings)
This is an aerospace ITAR facility - U.S. Persons required.
Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
Outside processing experience like plating and heat treat knowledge
Mil-Spec exp a plus in additional to a regulated environment
Six Sigma
