Job Summary:

Located at the University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, the Center for Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention coordinates Colorado's response to the misuse of medications such as opioids, stimulants, and sedatives. The Center's mission is to reduce prescription drug misuse and abuse in Colorado by developing policies, programs, and partnerships with the many state agencies, organizations, and community coalitions addressing one of the Colorado's major public health crises. The Colorado Consortium for Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention (Consortium) is the community engagement core of the Center.

This position will serve as an External Relations Strategist for the northwest portion of Colorado. Counties in that region may include Moffat, Routt, Rio Blanco, Eagle, Pitkin, Summit, Clear Creek, and others. External Relations Strategists further the mission of the Consortium by supporting local and regional community partners (such as community coalitions, local public health agencies, treatment providers, law enforcement, and elected officials) under the guidance of the Consortium Director and Assistant Director. The primary purpose of this position is to provide technical assistance, knowledge of resources, and subject matter expertise to community partners as they plan and implement local and regional interventions to address the drug overdose crisis. This is a fully remote position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Building and maintaining relationships with partners and stakeholders in the region.
  • Providing technical assistance as applicable (i.e., local strategic planning support, identification of available tools and programs, education surrounding policy and advocacy efforts).
  • Connecting community partners with available resources from the federal, state and local level.
  • Providing input from community stakeholders to the Consortium and its partners as they continue to develop resources and implement strategies at the state level.
  • Developing and delivering presentations as requested by community partners.
  • Representing the Center/Consortium at community events.
  • Working closely with other members of the External Relations team.
  • Collaborate to discuss community concerns and identify solutions.
  • Bring resources to other counties that are under-resourced.
  • Discuss opportunities to strategically partner between counties (especially between counties that share a public health department, treatment services or harm reduction services).
  • Identify promising practices that could be replicated in other parts of the state.
  • Provide work coverage during absences.

Work Location:

Remote - this role is eligible to work remotely, but the employee must be in the United States.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in behavioral health, business, public health, public relations, nursing, social work, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
  • One (1) year of professional level experience in public health.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior training and/or experience in the field of substance use prevention, intervention, harm reduction, treatment, or recovery.
  • Experience providing technical assistance to community organizations such as community coalitions, local public health agencies and elected officials.
  • Three (3) years' experience at a local, county or state public health agency.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $47,580 - $60,522.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
