Description

As an Associate Mechanical Piping Designer within KLJ's Oil and Gas division, you will provide essential support to the senior design team in the development of piping systems for various oil and gas, carbon capture, and other industrial/facility projects. This role offers an opportunity to learn and grow your skills in piping design while contributing to the success of multidisciplinary engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist senior designers in creating detailed piping layouts, drawings, and schematics using CAD software (e.g., CADWorx Plant Professional, Navisworks, or Plant 3D). Learn to interpret piping specifications, isometric drawings, and P&IDs to accurately represent piping configurations.
  • Learn to evaluate piping materials and components based on project requirements, under the guidance of senior designers. Assist in the preparation of material take-offs, bill of materials (BOM), and procurement documentation.
  • Familiarize yourself with industry codes, standards, and regulations relevant to piping design in the oil and gas sector (e.g., ASME B31.3, API 570). Support senior designers in ensuring that piping designs comply with applicable standards and project specifications.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical engineers, civil engineers, and process engineers, to coordinate piping design activities. Assist in communicating design requirements and resolving technical issues effectively.
  • Support senior designers in performing basic engineering calculations and analyses related to piping design, such as pressure drop calculations, pipe stress analysis, and hydraulic calculations. Learn to use software tools and resources to optimize piping layouts and configurations.
  • Assist in preparing and maintaining accurate design documentation, including drawings, specifications, and technical reports. Learn to organize and manage project files and documentation according to company standards.
  • Take advantage of learning opportunities and training programs provided by the company to enhance your skills and knowledge in piping design, CAD software, and industry best practices. Seek guidance from senior designers and mentors to progress in your career as a piping designer.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or technical diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Drafting, or related field.
  • Some exposure or coursework in piping design, CAD drafting, or mechanical engineering principles is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of engineering drawings, symbols, and terminology.
  • Proficiency in CAD software and drafting techniques is an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills and willingness to learn from experienced professionals.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and adapt to changing project requirements.

The salary for this position is expected to range between $60,000 to $85,000. Factors that may be used to determine actual salary include education (or applicable experience), training, job location, competencies relevant to the role, and internal equity.
