Mott MacDonald North America is looking to appoint a lead HVDC engineer to support all HVDC activities in the Region. You will champion the HVDC business within Mott MacDonald. You will be responsible for providing strategic direction for key pursuits and winning new projects. You'll be responsible for fostering knowledge and excellence within the HVDC team; taking a lead role in strategic recruitment. You'll promote thought leadership and will contribute to internal and external thought leadership events globally, consistent with developing and maintaining an industry recognized profile. You are expected to work collaboratively, helping to develop the brand, leveraging skills internationally to win / deliver work in North America and providing support to the international team and for wider projects and prospects.

The HVDC project engineer will join Mott MacDonald's power team and will contribute to existing HVDC matters and projects relating to HVDC. In some instances, you may also be required to also act as the Project Principal on key projects of significant importance. Attention to internal procedures including financial status reports, project reviews and risk register is an integral part of the role along with ensuring relevant Health and Safety risks are identified, made known to the project team and properly managed.

The responsibilities of the position will be varied, but the types of projects you will support include:

  • Feasibility Studies
  • Optioneering Studies
  • Specification preparation
  • Technical Bid Review
  • Design Assurance
  • Design Review
  • Site and FAT visits
  • Site pre commissioning and commissioning oversight supervision
  • Due Diligence
  • Technical expert services
  • Some original design may also be involved
  • Supporting business planning and skills development

We invite applications from candidates with the following experience:

  • Significant knowledge of HVDC technology along with a grounding in general transmission engineering with 15+ years' experience.
  • Has demonstrated thought leadership and project delivery with a notable market profile, including winning significant size assignments.
  • Has experience of working with OEMs, Contractors and Consultants.
  • Excellent communication skills, including listening, presenting and writing, both in the language of the Sector and in plain English.
  • Proven ability to develop a sense of community and to collaborate in the building of successful project delivery teams, fostering the concept of one-team working across business units and regions involved in HVDC.
  • Is passionate about the subject and prepared to develop a leading market profile to help achieve the Initiative objectives and become a prime contact point on behalf of the Group.
  • A professional engineer with a PE license is preferred.

Salary Range: $165,000 - $180,000
