Job Summary

Under minimal supervision, provides diagnostic, rehabilitative and research services in the treatment and diagnosis of auditory and vestibular disorders.

Essential Functions:
  • Audiometric/Vestibular Assessment * Performs routine audiometric and vestibular testing to assist in the identification of hearing and balance disorders and the severity. Determine the site of lesion and type of impairment. * Performs routine audiometric and vestibular testing to assist in the identification of hearing and balance disorders and the severity. Determine the site of lesion and type of impairment. * Gathers data for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and or geriatric patients. * Differentiates normal from abnormal findings including potential problems, and reports to referring physician. * Performs nerve monitoring during surgery for head and neck operations. * Identifies the learning needs of a patient/family, and participate in their education. (10%)
  • Hearing Aid Evaluation, Fitting and Follow Up * Prepares instrument and paperwork for fitting. * Performs hearing aid evaluations, patient and family counseling. * Gathers data for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and or geriatric patients to determine benefit of amplification. (10%)
  • Teaching and Supervision * Supervision of graduate interns. * Trains volunteer staff in newborn hearing screening program. * Instructs resident staff and medical students in use of audiometric testing, and interpretation of results. * Provides in-services as requested for DHMC clinics and staff. (10%)
  • Documentation * Ensures documentation is complete, concise, and reflects care given within designated time frame. * Assures all audiograms are recorded using the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association symbols. * Prepares reports and paperwork related to newborn hearing screening and other documentation required by the State of Colorado. (10%)
  • Collaboration and Ethics * Collaborates with the patient, family and other members of the health care team to provide excellent care. * Interacts with colleagues and the public in a manner consistent with the standards set forth in "excellence in service", and with the mission of the agency, and shares information with other members of the health care team. (10%)
  • Promotes positive interpersonal (customer) relationships with fellow employees, physicians, patients and visitors. Treats these individuals with courtesy, dignity, empathy and respect; consistently displays courteous and respectful verbal and non-verbal communications. (10%)

  • Ensures confidentiality of patient information by creating and maintaining a secure and trusting environment by not sharing information learned on the job, except when necessary in the performance of the job responsibilities or to improve a patient's care. (10%)

  • For Patient Care Positions: * Ensures all duties, responsibilities and competencies are conducted in a manner that is effective and appropriate to patients/clients to who care/service is being provided. * Demonstrates knowledge and applicability of the principles of growth and development over the life span, as well as demonstrating the ability to assess data reflecting the patient's status and interpreting appropriate cultural information of the patient(s) to whom care/ services is being delivered/provided. * Employee has completed and met their clinical competency standards (10%)

Education:
  • Doctorate Degree Clinical Doctorate in Audiology Required or
  • Doctorate Degree PhD in Audiology Required or
  • Master's Degree if degree was conferred prior to July 1st, 2007. Required

Work Experience:
  • 1-3 years One year of experience as an Audiologist Required

Licenses:
  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required and
  • CCCA-Certificate of Clinical Competence Audiology - ASHA - American Speech Language-Hearing Association Required and
  • AUD-Audiologist - ABA - American Board of Audiology Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of theory, principles, and practices of Audiology.
  • Knowledge of professional guidelines for delivering assessments.
  • Knowledge of safety principles and infection control in the patient care environment.
  • Knowledge of standards, policies and procedures of Denver Health as they pertain to Audiology and related departmental and agency operations.
  • Ability to integrate requirements of the facility and/or regulatory agencies into clinical decisions and documentation.
  • Demonstrates competency for assessment methods, techniques and approaches per professional, state and agency standards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form.
  • Ability to properly use medical equipment.
  • Ability to determine type and degree of hearing loss as well as vestibular disorders.
  • Ability to instruct students and volunteers in accordance with policy and standards.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of assessment findings as they relate to disease process.
  • Demonstrates ability to select most appropriate amplification.
