SCOPE OF INTERN WORK:
The Safety and Wellness Department of IRC Turlock provides culturally sensitive programs related to physical and mental health, protection, and recovery from abusive and unsafe circumstances (ex: human trafficking), education and enrichment and holistic wellness of individuals, children and families who have experienced the trauma associated with forced displacement or relocation.
The Masters of Social Work Intern will support safety and wellness program through case management and resource referral which may include the following: enrollment in entitlements and assistance programs, medical and mental healthcare, recovery of essential documents, legal protections and guidance, as well as educational and vocational opportunities and childcare.
The MSW Intern will assist in the completion of assessments (RHS-15), intakes, initial and subsequent service and care plans. The Intern will also support in outreach efforts and community engagement efforts related to the above services and the delivery of program related educational materials and activities.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
The objective of the Masters of Social Work Internship is to provide valuable hands-on experience to interns while assisting in the effective implementation of Safety and Wellness programing. Interns will learn agency and community-based programs that support clients ongoing stability and wellbeing essential for personal agency and self-sufficiency.
RESPONSIBILITES
  • Outreach: The Intern will participate in community outreach to educate community providers and eligible community members about IRC Program offerings.
  • Case Management: The Intern will complete case management activities including support of individual clients to obtain essential services, protections and opportunities through governmental and community agencies and programs.
  • Program Engagement: The intern will support program delivery within Safety and Wellness including but not limited to mental health wellness groups.
  • Documentation: The intern will complete intakes, assessments and service plans which pertain to the programs and services assigned clients are utilizing. The intern will also complete ongoing case notes related to all client communication or interactions, services provided, and outcomes achieved.

  • Eager to gain knowledge about IRC's history, philosophy, global initiatives, and local endeavors.
  • Desire to understand cross-cultural communication and the diverse ethnic backgrounds of clients and the willingness to provide culturally sensitive services and supports.
  • Commitment to adhering to IRC's volunteer and workplace policies.
  • Enrollment in an accredited Masters of Social Work graduate program with associated academic classwork.
  • Compliant with IRC regulations regarding confidentiality, reporting and documentation.
This position reports to the Mental Health Program Coordinator and Clinical Care Manager.
