Mayer Center Curatorial Fellow for Art of the Ancient Americas, Full-time (Non-exempt)

POSITION PURPOSE
The fellowship provides emerging scholars the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the scope of curatorial work within an encyclopedic museum context and pursue research/exhibition projects related to the museum’s collection.
The Mayer Center is dedicated to increasing awareness and promoting scholarship in the study of the art of the ancient Americas and Latin America. The Mayer Center fellowship fosters learning and study through the Ancient American art (formerly pre-Columbian) collections of the Denver Art Museum.

This position reports to the Curator, Frederick and Jan Mayer Curator, Ancient American Art.

The fellowship will have a term of up to two years. The Mayer fellow is expected to work full time, a 40-hour work week.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • The fellow will assist curators in researching the collection for the online collection as well as for upcoming exhibitions.
  • Contribute to new scholarship on the collection.
  • Conduct provenance research.
  • Participate in outreach and public programs both in the gallery and online.
  • Fellow will develop permanent collection-based exhibition that will be installed at the museum during the second year of residency.
  • Produce content for the museum’s digital platform.
  • Will collaborate with the Learning and Engagement department to produce content for the galleries.
  • May require some travel and will need to attend activities that will be after hours.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Candidates must either hold a doctoral degree (or international equivalent) in art history or related field or plan to defend their dissertation no later than December 2024.
  • Applicants should have strong language skills including Spanish.

Position type: This position is covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement with AFSCME-CWU. All nonsupervisory roles are either represented or non-represented. Represented means the role is unionized and covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement with AFSCME-CWU. Non-represented means the role is not unionized.

Pay: The salary range for this position is $53,900-$67,300, based on experience.
