About this Position
Pinyon’s Environmental Engineering & Regulatory Compliance team is seeking a mid-level Engineer to support our expanding water resources service area. Our group works with diverse clientele offering technical services ranging from permitting assistance, site inspections, and small-scale construction support to support on massive multi-million-dollar highway design and development projects.
Pinyon is searching for an ideal candidate who, while preferably possessing a strong background in hydrology and hydraulics, should also have a diverse technical skill set and a willingness to learn and explore new service areas. We understand that no single candidate will have experience in all the desired skills outlined in the job description. This position will be based out of our main office in Lakewood, Colorado. While Pinyon offers a flexible schedule and work-from-home options, presence in the Lakewood office (~2 days/week) is strongly encouraged. Occasional fieldwork and/or site visits/inspections may be required. Remote candidates with the desired skillset and drive will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Training (internal or external) will be provided as required by the task and individual experience. 

Essential Responsibilities
  • Project and/or task management (track budgets, develop scopes)
  • Proposal scoping and fee development
  • Application of environmental regulations
  • Stormwater and drainage civil design
  • Subcontractor management on behalf of clients (ensure compliance with regulations)
  • Technical report writing and review
  • Data collection, organization, and analysis
  • Data quality analysis, statistics, and trends
  • Effective communication with clients and colleagues
  • Teamwork in multi-disciplinary settings


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Bachelor’s in Environmental/Civil/Geotechnical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 4-8 years’ experience (technical writing, task or project management, design, sampling, compliance inspections).
  • Professional Engineer license in Colorado or eligibility for NCEES exam within a year of hire. Licensure in neighboring states is beneficial.
  • CDOT TECS and SWMP certifications required (or willingness to obtain).
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification with annual refreshers (or willingness to obtain).
  • Able to work independently or in a team.
  • Knowledge of Colorado and Federal environmental regulations.
  • The following job experiences are related to existing Pinyon services. They are not required responsibilities for this position; however, knowledge/experience in a few of these would be beneficial:
    • Master drainage planning
    • Hydraulic engineering
    • Stormwater Management Plans (construction, industrial, and/or mining)
    • Compliance: ESA, CWA, NEPA
    • Water regulations
    • State environmental regulations (CO, AZ, ND, WY)
    • Environmental construction monitoring
    • SPCC Plans
    • Asbestos inspections and regulations
    • Radon or soil gas mitigation (design or regulations)
    • Civil 3D drafting
    • Natural science application (geology, chemistry, biology)
    • GPS/surveying
    • Dewatering permits
    • Health and Safety protocols
